Sometimes life becomes too much to manage alone. Counselling gives you a safe, confidential space to talk about what is happening, with someone who listens without judging you.
My name is Kirstan Murphy Adams. I am a psychotherapist with over 25 years' experience, a BACP registered member and an NCPS accredited registrant. I see adults at my practice in Richmond town centre and online.
What I can help with
- Anxiety: worry that will not switch off, panic, or a constant feeling of being on edge
- Depression: low mood, loss of interest, or feeling flat and disconnected
- Stress: pressure at work or at home, poor sleep, or feeling burnt out
- Bereavement and loss: grief after a death, or after other important losses
- Relationship difficulties: with a partner, family, friends or colleagues
- Family breakdown: separation, divorce or conflict in the family
- Low self-esteem: a harsh inner critic, or difficulty believing in yourself
- Postnatal depression
- Trauma: one of my specialisms
If what you are going through is not on this list, please still get in touch. Many people come to therapy without a clear name for what they feel.
How I work
Sessions give you a safe and relaxed space where you can talk about your concerns without being judged. Together we look at which factors in your life are affecting you. Then we find practical ways to help you manage stress, reduce anxiety, improve your sleep and strengthen your relationships.
I tailor the way I work to each person. My training is in Gestalt psychotherapy and attachment studies, so I pay attention both to how you feel now and to the relationships and experiences that shaped you.
Counselling or psychotherapy?
The two words overlap a lot, and many people use them for the same thing. Counselling often focuses on a current difficulty. Psychotherapy often looks more deeply at patterns that started earlier in life. I am trained in both, so we can decide together what suits you.
In Richmond or online
I see clients in the heart of Richmond. If you prefer, we can meet online by Zoom, Teams or WhatsApp.
Using your health insurance
I am registered with Bupa, Aviva, WPA, Cigna and Vitality. If you have health insurance with one of them, your policy may pay for your sessions. How to use your health insurance.
